By continuously monitoring the performance of SAP BW on HANA, we can monitor the optimal system health & avoid various bottlenecks in SAP BW. There are a few approaches and strategies that we can follow:
– Monitor CPU, Memory, Disk IO, and Network Usage. Analyze the running workloads which includes long running queries and jobs.
– SAP Solution Manager for system monitoring which includes jobs such as monitoring BW jobs, system health, database performance, etc.
– We can also set up alerts to identify the long-running jobs or any bottlenecks.
– Monitor the data load performance, query performance, and background jobs.
– Identify errors in BW processes, including data loads and transformation errors.
– Monitor the BW queries using RSRT Tcode and find any potential issues in the query. Identify the queries that are taking too long to run and apply possible optimizations.
– Monitor the background jobs using SM37, Global Job Monitoring using SM66, Review sump analysis using ST22 and so on.
– In HANA studio, we can check the performance trace for slow-running queries and identify the bottlenecks using the SQL Plan Cache.
– Regular data cleanup and removing all the unnecessary data from the system to free up memory also works. Ensuring proper indexing and partitioning is also a good choice.
– These are few ways in which we can continuously monitor the performances in our SAP BW system. This way we can optimize both user experience and backend performances.
