SAP BW HANA Interview Series
1. What are the concept behind using IDOCs in SAP?
Ans: When you want to transfer some information from one SAP System to other, then the concept of IDOC will come into picture. IDOC mainly stands for the Intermediate Document.
IDOCs are either send or receive and thus called as either inbound idoc or outbound idoc.
There are 2 ways in which the data through IDOC get transferred. One through EDI and other through ALE. EDI is Electronic Data Exchange where the transfer happens from SAP to Non SAP system and if the transfer is between two SAP systems only, then ALE ie. Application Link Enabling.
IDOC work in the form of electronic messages.
2. What are some of the commonly faced issues in a process chain?
Ans: Common Process Chain Issues are :
- Duplicate Data Records – DTP Failure Issue
- Perform Conflict Error – When a ADSO or DTP is inactive
- Long running job in source system
- Maintaining source system connections in the DTP and TRFN
- Error in Unit Conversion issue
- Remote function call – failure
Etc
3. Is R/3 and ECC same?
Ans: SAP R/3 stands for Real Time system and 3 stands for three tier architecture (stands for database, application server and client server). SAP R/3 is the older version of SAP ECC. SAP has stopped supporting SAP R/3 and instead SAP ECC came into picture.
SAP ECC is not only effective cost wise but is a very complex yet user friendly interface.
SAP ECC stands for SAP ERP Central Component. SAP ECC is basically a application suite running on top of multiple databases including SAP HANA.
There are various components SAP ECC involves which includes SAP SD, SAP MM, SAP FI, SAP PP, SAP QM, SAP CO, SAP CS, SAP PS, SAP PM, SAP HCM etc.
4. What is the use of BW Scheduler ?
If any job needs to be scheduled or any process chain has to be triggered on a particular timing, then the concept of BW Scheduler could be used.
Suppose if we have to schedule a process chain, which can only be triggered after the completion of any event, then that could be done using a BW Scheduler.
Scheduling could be either direct or start using the API or meta chain. In the ‘Change Selection’ option of the START Variant, we can choose either Immediate scheduling or a particular timing or either after any API Chain.
5. What is the concept of Packages in SAP BW?
Ans: Basically if you want to transport a set of objects which you have enhanced, to higher environments than you can assemble the objects in a particular package and transport the same, at once.
Under the ‘Content’ tab, we can create a package and use It for the movement. It determines how the objects will be transported.
Encapsulation & visibility with user access can also be determined which taking the objects into a package.
